When a business evaporates overnight the most creative companies pivot instantly and come out fighting.

Sydney’s Stagekings builds very large stages really really quickly. These have included a life-size replica facade of the Edinburgh Castle for the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, giant themed sets for shows like Ninja Warriors, pop up versions of Shakespeare's Globe across Australia, and staging for the Commonwealth Games. Or at least they did.

On Friday March 13 their business crashed like a “house of cards" when the Melbourne Formula One was cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The company has a large computer cutter, the people to use it, and a newly formed market of companies having to work from home in isolation. So they decided to use their skills to produce “isolation desks”.

By Monday March 23, they had built a mock-up of a range of desks using a technique they often used constructing large sets on scaffolding.

And the next day, Stagekings had a new ecommerce site, publicity shots ready and were right back in business. Inspiring stuff.
